As a fellow woman, I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s this ridiculous amount of fear-based hate that has little to no basis in reality. These social-media based ideological ‘platform campaigns’ (in that they use a social media tool to reach millions of people at once), such as #YesAllWomen, serve no function other than to create hysteria in the female community, over things that generally blown way out of proportion.

So in short, yes. You’re right. It’s simple fear-mongering, and it’s creating a generation of girls who have been placed in the role of the victim, by default, by those who claim to be empowering them.

The Amazing Atheist reblogged your post and I feel the need to comment to get some of my feeling about this issue out. I think that this fear-mongering should be called out by someone with a louder voice, in terms of social media since I have a small group of followers, what is it: sexism. To me it’s morally deplorable to assume that every person out there in the world walking around with an Y chromosome is out there to beat me, subjugate me, and rape me. To assume that every man is a monster for simply being a man. There are so many people in my life who are men who are people I love, respect, and admire. People who are smart, funny, passionate, and kind. So I do not believe I’ve been brainwashed by the patriarchy when I stand up and say “not all men.” It is because I feel the need to stand up for my friends and family whenever I hear people calling them the scum of the earth and scapegoating them for every single social ill that I say “not all men.”

I also think that feminists do themselves no favors when they demonize men. Talking points about gender equality are likely to fall on deaf ears because why would anyone want to listen to you when you’ve preempted the conversation with an insult? People tend to shut down the part of themselves that’s willing to listen and go on the offensive when you call them evil.

I might actually loose some followers because of this, and if you do unfollow me, I will not resent you or be insulted but I had to say my piece on this. I think that it’s wrong to generalize an entire group of people based on the actions of some in that group. I just do. However, if the actions of people like Elliot Roger are enough for you to write off the entirety of the male population forever, then I’m sure you have your own personal reasons for that. But I have personal reasons for my views, too. They maybe much less intense than yours, but since I am a woman, I think I can disprove that “yesallwomen” speaks for all women, since I am one and I do not believe you speak for me.

Bettersupes is an art project by eyeburst where they draw superheros based on outfits and ideas put together by little girls.  It’s such a cool project, please go show them some love. Girls Rock!

I normally don’t reblog comic stuff, but little girls making their own awesome super alter egos will always be an exception.

Rape is the only crime on the books for which arguing that the temptation to commit it was too clear and obvious to resist is treated as a defence. For every other crime, we call that a confession.

I’ve gotten more angry asks about this post than I have actual reblogs.
